How to Set Up a Sports Card Trading Blog

In-person sports card trading has gone into decline and many have turned to the internet to trade and grow their collection. If you’re planning to also make the switch, knowing how to set up a sports card trading blog is the first of the many things you need to accomplish in order to be a successful sports card trader in the digital space.

Some traders choose to jump straight into a full-blown trading website, but for beginners, a blog will work just fine and help you get a feel of how online sports card trading is done. Below is a quick and easy-to-follow guide to get you started with your own blog.

How to Set Up a Sports Card Trading Blog in 4 Steps

Choose your platform

The first step in creating a blog is to choose a platform where you’ll do your blogging. There are many options out there, but since you’ll only be using your blog to trade, a free site will do just fine.

Two common options are Blogger and WordPress. Both have their own pros and cons, but both work and are more than enough for your purposes. To start, all you have to do is head to their website and create a free account.

Name your blog

Once you’ve signed up, you’ll need to name your page to successfully register it. Take note that your blog’s name goes into your website address. Hence, it has to be short, catchy, specific, and easy to remember. “The Card Shop,” for example, is more likely to be remembered and visited than “My Trading Website.” More importantly, it has to be relevant. Picking a random name that has nothing to do with card trading won’t do your page much good.

One good idea is to use your social media name. If you’ve already established a strong online presence using your Twitter or Instagram account, consider using the same handle for your website.

Pick a template

Next is to decide how you want your blog to look. The template you pick will dictate your page’s overall look and feel, and there are many free templates to choose from in both Blogger and WordPress.

Now, when choosing a template, don’t mind the different features too much. Remember that you’re here to trade, not to wow people with your site’s bells and whistles. It’s best to pick a clean and simple template that will not only be easy for you to use but also easy for fellow traders to read and understand.

List your cards

After you’ve picked a template, it’s time to list your sports cards and wants. There’s no science to doing this and it’s mostly dependent on what you want to accomplish. If you’re trading rookie cards, autographs, and other higher-end cards, then it’s maybe best to organize it by teams. If you’re a set builder though, then consider doing your trade lists by year.

Also, don’t forget to add helpful links. Your sports card trading blog should be easy to navigate for other traders, so it doesn’t hurt to add links here and there that will make it easy for them to find what they’re looking for.
